Cats are known for all the kinds of problems that they cause because of their hairballs and it is high time that you do something about them. Usually those cats which have long hair are more prone to developing hairballs rather than those cats that have shorter hair. Also, like mentioned already you need to do something about the hairballs, you should not take these for granted if they haven’t yet caused your cat any trouble, because they very well can. If the problem is not dealt with well, and if your cat is unable to get rid of a particular hairball through vomiting it out or the other way it can cause some serious health problems, dealing with blockages in the digestive system. There are also severe cases concerning the ill treatment of hairballs that have actually been fatal for the cat, though it can be removed through surgery. But the idea of removing hairballs through surgery for your cat is not a great idea! There are some things that you can do at home to help your cat avoid develop hairballs.

The firs t thing that you should do to prevent hairballs from developing is the daily grooming of your cat. Ensure that you comb your cat’s fur on a daily basis so that all the dead hair that would have otherwise formed a hairball is taken care of by you. After you have brushed your cat’s hair satisfactorily, wipe the coat with some kind of moist cloth or towel so that all further dead hair would be taken care of. This kind of grooming done on a regular basis would lessen the chances of your cat facing the trouble of hairballs.

There are also some special products such as lubricants that you can feed your cat if they face constant trouble with the hairballs. These would help your cat to easily digest the hairball and pass it out through its digestive system without causing too much trouble for your cat. Besides these lubricants, there are also some special kinds of cat food that once fed to your cat help it in digestion by breaking the hairball up. The main ingredient in this kind of cat food is mineral oil that helps in the breaking up of the hairball that would help your cat’s digestive system out of danger.

However, if your cat reaches such severe conditions of health where it begins to retch or there is no bowel movement for days together you should know that the hairball problem for your cat has reached serious levels and you should take care of the condition immediately. You must visit the vet for the best possible course of action to help your cat get rid of the horrid hairball problem.

Before adopting a cat one must be aware that there is a big commitment to come ahead. Cats just don’t mean that they can walk in and out of your house any time. Cats require very tender and delicate care and if your cat grows into the habit of strolling outdoors way too much, then you have to take necessary precautions. It is good to understand whether your life is stable enough to make the necessary arrangement for bringing in a cat. Responsible pet ownership is a must and you should tread on this extremely carefully. If you do not plan in advance then you could end up in a really stuck up situation where you are not free to arrange your life accordingly and to involve your pet’s care in it.

When you adopt a cat and your cat grows old enough for breeding time then it is good to consider with your doctor about the specific means of splaying or neutering. Every country is overloaded with uncared for cats. If you want more pets, you can always adopt some instead of adding to the huge number of uncared for cats. But if you are really willing to have one litter of which you are sure to be able to handle, then you can go for it. But remember that more than one or two pregnancy is not a good thing to be done. So one or at the most two pregnancies, in a lifetime is enough. Don’t fall into the trap of breeders and ruin your pet cat’s health. Whether it is a male or a female do neuter or splay your feline accordingly. This is indeed one of the most important decisions that you can take. Neutering or splaying also ensures greater health and a stronger immunity system. So whenever you are sure that you do not want any more kittens you should be able to have them operated. Ideally for any cats, the operation can be done after the first one and half years. This way the cat’s health is restored and no unnecessary pregnancy is carried out. Again if you have to have a litter, you should operate the mother only after she has healed post six months from the pregnancy. This is a must.

You will enjoy immense freedom with such ownership and your cat’s health will always be at prime when you give the adequate care and attention that it deserves.
